Troy Glaus, hitless in his first 30 at-bats against the Cubs this season, had two of the Cardinals' four homers off Carlos Zambrano and finished with five RBIs to help St. Louis beat Chicago 12-3 on Saturday.

Skip Schumaker and Albert Pujols also homered off the Cubs' ace, who lasted just 4 1-3 innings, giving up nine runs and 10 hits. The four homers allowed by Zambrano were a career high, while the nine runs tied the most he'd ever given up.

Glaus' second homer of the day and 21st of the season was a three-run shot in the fifth that finished Zambrano (12-5), who suffered his first loss of the season at Wrigley Field, where he'd been 6-0.

Todd Wellemeyer (9-4) pitched 6 2-3 innings. The former Cubs reliever was charged with three runs and gave up six hits, including a solo homer to Zambrano leading off the third. Zambrano's homer was his third of the season and 15th of his career, extending his club record for pitchers.

Phillies 4, Pirates 2

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Brett Myers pitched 7 2-3 sharp innings, Jimmy Rollins had four hits and Philadelphia snapped a 23-inning scoreless streak in a win over Pittsburgh.

Myers (5-9) allowed one run and five hits, striking out six. The feisty right-hander wasn't pleased to leave with a runner on second and two outs in the eighth.

Myers muttered a few expletives when manager Charlie Manuel went to the mound. Manuel went after Myers in the dugout and the two briefly exchanged words nose-to-nose.

J.C. Romero retired Doug Mientkiewicz for the final out in the inning and Chad Durbin finished for his first save after allowing a run in the ninth.

Mets 8, Marlins 6

NEW YORK (AP) — Carlos Delgado hit a mammoth home run, Daniel Murphy added the first of his big league career and New York pushed Florida further back in the NL East.

Carlos Beltran homered and drove in three runs, David Wright had three hits and the Mets kept pace a game behind division-leading Philadelphia. The Marlins dropped 2 1/2 back after losing for the third time in four games.

Jorge Cantu hit a two-run homer, the Marlins' first in a season-long five games, and Mike Jacobs added a tying two-run shot in the sixth. But the Mets quickly regained the lead and Scott Schoeneweis (2-2) and the bullpen hung on before Aaron Heilman finished for his second save.

Brian Stokes was called up from New Orleans to make a spot start in place of John Maine, but also may have earned a job in the New York bullpen come September. He gave up four runs and seven hits in 5 2-3 innings, and also contributed his first major league hit in his first at-bat.

Scott Olsen (6-7) was battered for five runs and nine hits in 5-plus innings. The Marlins' starter and has just two wins in his last 17 games.

Brewers 6, Nationals 0

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Ben Sheets pitched a five-hitter for his first win since July 4, leading Milwaukee over Washington.

Sheets (11-5) tied teammate CC Sabathia for the NL lead in complete games with four and extended the Nationals' scoreless streak to 22 innings.

Ray Durham and J.J. Hardy hit back-to-back homers off Washington starter Tim Redding (8-7) in the fourth for the Brewers, who moved four games behind the Cubs in the NL Central.

Corey Hart hit a solo shot in the fifth as Milwaukee won for the sixth time in eight games after losing five straight.

The only bad news for Milwaukee was the loss of All-star left-fielder Ryan Braun. He left the game in the bottom of the third because of tightness in his lower back. There was no further word on his status.

Astros 3, Reds 1.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Miguel Tejada homered and Brian Moehler pitched seven solid innings against his former team, helping Houston beat Cincinnati.

Moehler also doubled and scored, and Lance Berkman added an RBI single as Houston sent the Reds to their fifth consecutive loss, matching a season high. Cincinnati has had four other five-game losing streaks.

Moehler (8-4), who was 2-4 in 10 games for the Reds in 2002, fell one out short of a complete game against Cincinnati in a win on July 29. He followed that up Saturday by pitching six shutout innings before allowing a run in the seventh.

Jose Valverde pitched the ninth for his 28th save in 34 opportunities.

Bronson Arroyo (10-9), who was 6-1 in his last seven starts, lasted six innings. He was gave up five hits and two runs with seven strikeouts.

Padres 8, Rockies 3

DENVER (AP) — Adrian Gonzalez hit his 28th homer, Greg Maddux improved to 8-2 lifetime at Coors Field and San Diego ended Aaron Cook's mastery of them.

Luis Rodriguez and Kevin Kouzmanoff had three hits each and both scored twice for San Diego. Brad Hawpe had three hits for the Rockies.

Maddux (6-8) allowed four hits through six innings, and three of those were wiped out by double plays.

The only other hit was Chris Iannetta's solo homer in the third. He left after giving up singles to Matt Holliday and Brad Hawpe to start the seventh. He struck out four and walked one in winning his third straight start.

Trevor Hoffman got the final three outs for his 25th save in 28 chances.

Cook (14-8) allowed 10 hits and struck out two, lost his second in a row and failed to get out of the sixth for the second straight start. In July he pitched at least six innings in all five of his starts.
